Data and API
StreetSpy compiles NYC's public housing records for every residential building in the city and refreshes them daily. The renter site is free and will stay free. Commercial access to the data is licensed.
What is available
- Building grades and records by BBL. The A to F grade and score, open HPD violations by class, 311 housing complaints, bedbug filings, executed evictions, housing litigation, DOB violations, rent-stabilized unit counts and the registered owner and head officer, keyed by borough, block and lot.
- The landlord ranking with weekly changes. Portfolios grouped by the head officer on HPD registrations, with open violations per 10 units and how each portfolio moved week over week. The full ranking is saved every Sunday and kept for 52 weeks; the latest week's changes are public as JSON at /api/rankings/landlords/changes?weeks=1.
- Neighborhood aggregates. Graded buildings, grade mix, median open violations per 10 units against the borough, rent-stabilized share and the top 311 complaint types for 170 neighborhoods.
- Alerts on changes. Notice when a building, a portfolio or a neighborhood gets new violations, complaints or filings, after the nightly data refresh.
Every record is a public city record, cited to its source dataset, with the date it is current through. How each figure is computed is on the methodology page.

Free keys, the API docs and the API terms are on this site; the machine-readable reference is /api/v1/openapi.json.
A badge for well-kept buildings
For owners and managers of buildings graded A or B: a free badge for your website or listing that says "Grade A, public records verified by StreetSpy" (or Grade B), with the date of the city records behind it and a link to the building's full report. No key and no sign-up.
- It shows the letter only, never the score or the counts behind it, and it follows the page's light or dark background (add data-theme="light" or "dark" to choose).
- It appears only while the building is graded A or B. If the grade drops to C, D or F, the badge shows nothing until the records improve.
- The building id is the number in the report's address on streetspy.nyc, for example 28218 in streetspy.nyc/building/28218.
- We count which websites show the badge by site name and day only, never the page or the visitor.
